Important Update from Mount Mitchell Cafe & Eatery
To our valued guests and supporters,
As many of you know, Western North Carolina continues to recover from the lasting impacts of Hurricane Helene. While tremendous progress has been made, ongoing recovery efforts, roadway impacts, and reduced access along portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway have significantly affected visitation to Mount Mitchell.
As a result, beginning Monday, August 3, 2026, Mount Mitchell Cafe & Eatery will temporarily pause full-service restaurant operations.
We remain committed to serving visitors who make the trip to North Carolina's highest peak. The Mount Mitchell SUMMIT SNACK SHACK will remain open 7 days a week from 11 AM- 5 PM with an expanded menu featuring fresh sandwiches, salads, snacks, beverages, and additional grab-and-go options.
This decision was not made lightly. Reduced visitation and substantially lower guest traffic, driven largely by the continuing effects of Hurricane Helene and limited Parkway access, have made it difficult to sustain full-service restaurant operations at this time.
We are optimistic about the future and look forward to bringing back full-service dining in 2027 or once the Blue Ridge Parkway is reopened on both sides of Mount Mitchell and visitation returns to sustainable levels.

To our valued guests, while Western North Carolina continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, ongoing reconstruction efforts and limited access along portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway have significantly impacted visitation to Mount Mitchell.
As a result, Mount Mitchell Café & Eatery will temporarily pause full-service restaurant operations beginning August 3, 2026.
The Summit Snack Shack will remain open daily from 11 AM to 5 PM, serving fresh sandwiches, salads, snacks, beverages, and café favorites including the Summit Club and Chicken Salad Sandwich.
